Coed Varsity Golf · Fall 2019 Golf Team Info

The golf season is almost here! Broad Run will be our home course this season. The first 2 practices will be on June 25 and 27, both at Broad Run. WE will meet inside at 10:00. Our first tee time is 11:00 for our experienced players. Practice will end at 2:00. Your ride should pick you up at the course. Before you will be allowed to practice, you must meet the following requirements…

  1. A current VHSL high school physical must be turned in to the SJHS Activities office. Physicals must be completed after May 1, 2019 in order to be valid for the 2019-20 school year. A blank physical form can be found HERE!
  2. High school concussion training must be completed. If you have never had the training, you must attend a meeting with a parent. You can do this at any school. A full list of high school concussion training dates can be found HERE. Stonewall’s first meeting is June 5 at 7:00pm in the auditorium. If you have attended a high school training in the past, you can renew your training online.
  3. You must be a student in good academic standing — passing 5 subjects for the year (no more than 2 Ds)

You will need your own equipment… golf clubs, a free standing bag or pull cart, golf balls, tees, a sweat towel, and a water bottle. Golf shoes are not necessary, but are helpful. Golf courses require a collared shirt, shorts, or long pants… no denim!

The USGA is a wonderful website for golf tips on different shots and all of the rules. Start reading!! There are a lot of rule changes this year! Learn as much as you can about this wonderful, but difficult game. The golf channel on TV is also a good source.

Start getting in shape. You will be walking 18 holes carrying your clubs. You can also use a pull cart. This is harder than it seems… you will be playing in the heat of the summer! Our competitive months are August, September, and October.

Coach Mepes will email the schedules as they get completed. July’s practice schedule is almost done! We are not allowed to practice the week of July 4th, and we will resume practice on July 8th. Practices will be on Monday through Thursday. We will be practicing at other county courses, and you will need a ride to and from the course during the summer months.

If you have any additional questions, you can reach out to Coach Mepes at any time… or 703-501-2299.
